To honor the memory of captain John
J. Clark retired 45th New York
Infantry volunteers, age 67, who
died at this spot in July 1915. He
was driving through in a buckboard;
his horse was tied to the rear of the
buckboard and died there. Captain
Clark evidently wandered around
some and finally crawled under the
buckboard where he died, probably
from thirst.
